West Wales 4x4 Group

We were driving down the A40 when we saw some 4x4s on trailers, so we did a U-turn and followed to a farm in Tiers Cross.

It was a lovely, friendly event run by the West Wales 4x4 Group We would probably go more often if it wasn't 200 miles from home. We took thousands of pictures.

Black Defender

The Black Defender was nicely prepared, powerful, manoeverable and the driver was skillful and brave, let down only by his repeated inability to drive through the correct gate.

Blue Range Rover

The Blue Range Rover retired early when it dropped a transmission shaft in the quarry.

Bronco

Bronco took an end-over-end tumble down the hill. No serious damage sustained to vehicle or occupants.

Note the orientation of the tow-ball in this picture...

Discovery

The Discovery started off looking road legal. It finished looking a little worse for wear.

Green Rollcage

Homebuilt

This homebuilt 4x4 is based on a Suzuki chassis. Note the independant left/right handbrake levers. He clearly had a great time, despite being plagued by fuel pump problems.

MD Signs

We only have a couple of pictures of the Defender from MD signs. We guess it must have broken something important early on.

Red Defender

The West Wales 4x4 group is a friendly place and we noticed that often, cars would change passengers on different stages. On the other hand, no-one was ever crazy enough to risk being a passenger in the Red Defender.

To complete the stage, all you needed to do was to poke the front bumper through between the canes at the top of the hill but the Red Defender had other plans, he went straight over the top, down the cliff on the other side and landed in the muddy pool

Red Suzuki

It would appear that 4x4 trialing is open to everyone. For example, this little red Suzuki bore a sticker proclaiming that it was on hire from MPH Tool and Plant Hire in nearby Haverfordwest.

Despite fierce competition, the Red Suzuki took the prize for being muddiest.

Sportrak

You don't need a V8 to join in. The plucky little Sportrak had as much fun as anyone else.

Suzuke Boy

Suzuki Boy would stop at nothing to get his vehicle round the course.

White Series 1

This unassuming little Land Rover might look like something from Noddy and Toyland but it had a wonderful growl and packed a punch. The sticker on the rear window with the name "Drew Bowler" might be a clue.

Yellow Rollcage

This was the car that brought us to the event. We spotted it on a trailer on the A40 and followed it all the way to the farm.

Kathleen found herself in the middle of the track and ran around like a headless chicken trying to get out the way of the car. Good thing that the competition is not against the clock...
