Weymouth

The competition theme that we are taking pictures for this month is "The Golden Hour", referring to the first and last hour of daylight, with golden colours, and long shadows.

At this time, we also found the Blues Brothers out to greet the morning and some plonkers from MKF determined to place picnic chairs and a table right in the middle of the large kite arena for maximum obstruction.

The wind at Weymouth is never perfect - but we managed to fly lots of stuff none-the-less. The Gecko, Panda, Blue Peter Bear, Spindly fish, Manta Ray and Jordan airform all got an outing at different times.

But the event took a severe toll on the inventory. We ripped the Gecko and the Panda on the signs in the beach and a short intervention between the Manta Ray and the lights at the funfair was solved by my Stanley knife. When a pilot was lost to an unattended kite on abrasive line, Kathleen didn't hesitate to plunge into the bay to retrieve it.

AKF tried out their new Manta Ray. They suffered from the problem of "Too many cooks" as no-one checked the line, so no-one realised that they were launching a maxi kite using only a small Pilot Kite line to secure it - they were soon chasing down the field after it.

Other Shenanigans included playing with the Pedalos, a Bat fight organised by Lodden Valley and Kathleen trying out our new packing boxes for size.

Our efforts didn't go un-noticed. The Gecko was shown on the local TV news. Kathleen was featured in the Dorset Echo, the Mayor came to say hello and we were awarded a trophy for "Best team display".

Karen Gambol had some interesting stuff, including a new inflateable called "Meg's Head".

Everyone is always glad to see Marla from Washington.
